Charles “Gus” G. Kurrus graduated from Signal Hill School in 1948 and from Belleville Township High School West in 1952. Received a Bachelors degree at Westminster College and a degree in Mortuary Science from Worsham College. Charles has been and is still very active in the community. They include:

Dale A. Kurrus graduated from Signal Hill School in 1975 and from Belleville Township High School West in 1979. During his high school and college years Dale worked at the funeral home washing cars, cutting the lawns and other general maintenance. He attended Greenville College for 3 years studying Business. In 1983 he graduated form Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a Mortuary Science Degree. Dale joined the firm on its 100th anniversary becoming the 5th generation in funeral service. Dale currently holds a Funeral Directors and Embalmer License in Illinois and Missouri and is a licensed Illinois Insurance agent. Dale has always been and continues to be very active in the community. They include:

Steven Pate graduated May 2006 from St. Louis Community College Forest Park Mortuary Science Program. He received his Illinois Funeral Director License in June 2007. Steven has worked in the Belleville and Fairview Heights Area assisting families for over 6 years. He joined the Kurrus Family in January 2012. Steven is a past Secretary/Treasure, Vice President, and President of the St. Clair County Funeral Directors Association. Currently Steven is the Region 3 Director of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association representing Southern Illinois. He is dedicated in preserving the integrity of the Funeral Service Profession.

Rich Kehrer a Smithton native, graduated from Freeburg High and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Mortuary Science Program in 1999. He joined the Kurrus family as a Funeral Director and embalmer in December of 2000. He currently holds a Funeral Directors License in Illinois and Missouri. He received his Illinois insurance license in 1999 and is helpful in assisting families with the insurance process. Rich, his wife Jenny and three children, Louis, Peyton and Vivian, they reside in Smithton.

John Luther, Jr. was born in Belleville, IL. At the age of 3 he moved from Belleville to Smithton, IL. He attended and graduated from St. John the Baptist grade school in 1995. From there he went on to Freeburg High School and graduated in 1999. He was active in the Boy Scouts for a number of years. He received his Associate of Science degree from SWIC in 2001 and then went on to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He received his Bachelors of Mortuary Science and Funeral Service in 2003. He joined the Kurrus staff as an apprentice in May of 2003. John received his Illinois Funeral Director and Embalmers license in July of 2004. John currently resides in Smithton.

Michael R. Kennedy is the family Service Director, licensed by the state of Illinois, and oversees the day-to-day operation of the pre-arrangement and After-Care Departments at Kurrus Funeral Home.
Mike has been assisting families in the cemetery and funeral home business since 1993 and before joining Kurrus Funeral Home, in 1998, was the Family Service Manager at an area Cemetery and Funeral Home combination facility. He has won numerous sales and customer service awards and has an extensive background in sales and marketing. Mike has helped over thousands of families in this area to carefully pre-plan and customize their funeral arrangements.

Steve Smith is the Kurrus Director of Continuing–Care Services. He ensures answers are provided for family questions and concerns following the funeral service. His aftercare program is an open-ended ministry, designed to assist you and your family in any way possible, with grief care tools, suggestions, ideas and helping with arrangements for monuments and markers, and information on funeral pre-arrangements.
Steve is a graduate of Willamette University, Salem, OR. with a BA in psychology. He earned his MA in management from Webster University while on active duty as a communications-electronics staff officer with the USAF, from which he retired after 27 years of service. Upon entering the death care industry in 2000, he received his Illinois Insurance Provider’s license and has experience with two local cemeteries as well as the Kurrus Funeral Home.
